Google’s location based search provides a major opportunity for small businesses

Google recently launched a new feature for its mobile search engine which allows for location based search which will filter out search results to show results based on what is around you. This new feature is a result of the belief at Google that the mobile web has more potential than the PC Web. Recently, Google’s Vice President for product development said that “with all the capabilities these phones that are coming out have like GPS, cameras, we think there is the potential to actually make this mobile web better than the PC web”. Google’s primary interest is generating advertising revenue from mobile search. The following video will show the potential of location based search. For the restaurant shown, their local goggle listing could be enhanced with a link to their mobile site which shows their menu items and specials.
